Description:

An early Cross of Valour (Krzyż Walecznych) manufactured by Arthus Bertrand, Paris for the Polish Army in France (Armia Hallera).
This example represents an early 1920s issue, distinguished by the spherical ball suspension connecting the cross to the ribbon ring — a hallmark of the first production batches.

The obverse bears the inscription “NA POLU CHWAŁY 1920” with crowned Polish eagle at the center, while the reverse shows “WALECZNYM” with a sword and laurel wreath motif.

Condition:

Very good original condition with warm bronze patina.
Sharp details, clean lettering, and original, well-preserved ribbon.
Authentic early piece – no repairs or replacements.

Historical Note:

Award instituted by Marshal Józef Piłsudski in 1920 to honor acts of battlefield bravery.
French-made issues by Arthus Bertrand were distributed primarily to members of the Blue Army (Armia Hallera).
The ball-type suspension identifies this cross as a scarce first-series issue, preceding the later flat-loop wartime variants.
